Lockerbie (December 21, 1988)

On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing all 259 people on board. The flight originated in Frankfurt, Germany, which was where explosives were packed into passenger luggage and placed onto the flight after being ferried to Frankfurt on a flight from Malta.

Eleven people in Lockerbie were also killed as large sections of the plane fell in the town and destroyed several houses, bringing total fatalities to 270.
